Professional profile
Founder and Partner of Tarawneh Law Firm & Arbitration, Adel Al-Tarawneh is a Jordanian lawyer and arbitrator whose practice combines extensive legal and arbitral experience with a deep institutional understanding of public authorities and the security sector. He brings rigorous analysis, sound judgment and a practical focus to the protection of clients’ interests.
He began his career with Jordan’s Public Security Directorate in 1973, progressing through investigative, protective-security, criminal-investigation, training, planning and research roles. From 1984 to 1986, he served as a Public Prosecutor before the Police Court. He subsequently held senior legal and administrative appointments, including Head of Legal Affairs, oversight of inspection and public complaints, Director of the Police Training School, Director of Ma’an Police Directorate, and Director of Studies and Documentation. This background gave him a precise working knowledge of military and security procedures, public institutions and the management of sensitive and complex matters.
Since entering private legal practice in 1994, he has focused on litigation, domestic and international arbitration, commercial, civil and compensation disputes, cross-border matters, and the drafting of agreements between companies and investors. His legal and arbitral experience also extends to contracts and disputes involving the military, security and defence sectors, including supply, equipment and service arrangements concerning weapons, security equipment and related systems, with specialist technical expertise engaged where the matter requires it.
He holds a Master of Laws from the University of Jordan, where his thesis examined the duties and responsibilities of board members of public shareholding companies, supporting his work in corporate governance and institutional accountability. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws from Beirut Arab University and a Diploma in Police Sciences from the Royal Police Academy. He is an accredited arbitrator and arbitration expert.
He was elected to the Jordan Bar Association Council for four terms, served as Treasurer and Vice President, and assumed responsibility for several important professional files. A member of the Arab Lawyers Union, he has also contributed to human-rights initiatives and legal education through cooperation with Jordanian universities and lecturing at the Bar Training Institute.
His professional development includes specialist programmes in the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan covering criminal investigation, crime prevention and the administration of criminal justice, together with advanced training in international commercial arbitration. Today, he continues to oversee major matters and guide the firm’s team through a practice founded on precision, professional independence and the protection of client interests.
